Guffey to Alma

July 27th

Breakfast at Rita's. Guffey is such a unique town!! Our waiter, who was the only worker at the place, has lived in Guffey for 13 years. He moved there because he was always visiting Colorado every year. "It's nice to live in a place where cell phones don't work."

Today was a day of low mileage, probably 40 miles. Not too hilly with some INCREDIBLE views. Open meadows enclosed by the mountains. We had lunch in Hessler and ate with two cyclists riding the Great Divide.  We stopped in Fariplay 19 miles down the road. It got COLD!! We had about 6 miles left, but they felt loooooong because of the chill. As we got onto a nice bike path, a lady stopped Liz and asked if we needed a place to stay for the night. We ended up staying at her house. We pulled up to the smell of the campire, the sound of classics playing, and the warm welcome of Pete and Maria. BEDS to sleep on. Gorgeous house. They made us pasta dinner and we sat out by the fire and watched the delayed fireworks show from Fariplay. We're currently at 10,500 feet. NUTS!!! Tomorrow we climb to Breckenridge. Hooray!!!
